In this episode of The Midlife Rebel, I’m joined by elder and lineage keeper Kay Cordell Whitaker to explore Ka Ta See, an ancient wisdom tradition with roots in Peru and the Egyptian mystery teachings.
Kay shares insights from decades of studying with her teachers, along with the core ideas behind her book The Seven No-Nos: A Guide to Awakening and Freedom. According to Kay, much of modern culture runs on an “upside-down wheel” — patterns of judgment, rigid expectations, assumptions, and rushed conclusions that quietly shape how we see the world.
Together we explore the habits that keep us stuck, the masks we wear without realising it, and how simple practices — like honest self-observation and journaling — can help us begin to see those patterns clearly.
We also talk about Ka Ta See’s deeper perspective that everything is alive — the rock, the river, the sun, and even the space between things. Kay explains the idea of “spirit senses,” subtle ways we perceive information beyond the five physical senses, and how reconnecting with those perceptions can change how we move through the world.
Later in the conversation, Kay introduces the song ceremony, a practice of returning to a pure feeling of love, beauty, or awe — something she describes as reconnecting with our true signature. For many people, this rediscovery begins during midlife, when familiar identities fall away and a deeper awakening begins.
If you’ve ever felt the urge to question inherited beliefs, step off the wheel of constant urgency, and reconnect with something more authentic, this conversation offers a thoughtful place to start.
